Excerpt from Studies in Pedagogy It is fully appreciated that there are many books written during the present times for which there not only is no demand, but for which there is no excuse. The present little volume is not born of any desire to produce a book on pedagogy better than any yet written. It is, however, prompted by a desire to choose from the field of pedagogical science material well adapted to a special class of students, with which the writer has to deal in his daily teaching. The field of pedagogy is so large that material must be selected from it for those students who are just beginning the study of pedagogy. So it has been the aim in this little volume to select from this broad field and organize such material as is best adapted to students beginning this line of work. At the same time material has been selected whose study, it is believed, will be of substantial worth to teachers in giving them an insight into the nature of the teacher's profession as well as knowledge valuable for guidance in teaching. While simplicity has been aimed at as much as possible, no effort has been made to avoid the most fundamental problems of pedagogy.
